Attn: Employers — A Twist on Cash for Clunkers

clunker carDid you participate in the Cash for Clunkers program?

I have a better idea. Cash for Clunker Employees!

Trade in that older model employee who is not giving you the mileage you should be getting.

Get a $4500 rebate to invest in hiring and training a new, enthusiastic, more efficient employee!

This smacks of age discrimination and I can’t believe you actually posted this. I am a federal manager of 47 employees ranging in age from 25 to 62. The work ethic of my older employees is excellent and they are great mentors to the younger ones. I have been a federal employee for 32 years and I can tell you that there is a new culture out there, at least in my agency. The addage “good enough for government work” doesn’t exist here. We are a center of excellence and have the benchmarks to prove it.

I’m not advocating age discrimination. That’s illegal and unethical. I am advocating discrimination against mediocre or poor performance – regardless of age. The “Cash for Clunkers” title was a little tongue-in-cheek.
I’m glad to hear your older employees are setting the example and that you have a culture of excellence at your agency. That’s exactly what I help government agencies do!
